Welcome to Austin Adventure Guides
The
purpose of the YMCA Adventure Guides program (formerly Indian Guides) is to
foster communication, understanding and companionship between parent and
child through the teaching of values, attitudes, fitness and health,
knowledge and ethics.
The YMCA Adventure Guides Program helps develop
positive relationships between parents and children. Circles are generally
formed around school or neighborhood groupings with six to ten parent/child
couples or families. Individual Circles meet monthly, September through June.
A combined event for all Circles is held once a month and includes such
activities as campouts, sporting events and fundraising events for the YMCA
Partners of Youth program.
Under
the guidance of their moms and dads, kids have the freedom to explore their interests
in a creative and imaginative way, no tests to pass. Regular meetings combine
ceremony, scouting reports, and a program which includes crafts, games, or
storytelling. The central theme of the program draws upon the culture of
Native Americans to help promote a positive and lasting relationship between
parent and children.
